Frequently Asked Questions
1. What types of therapy do you offer at Ella Psychotherapy in San Diego?
We specialize in evidence-based treatments, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). Dr. Mirzakhanian is also trained in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy. Our psychologists provide individual, family, and group therapy for conditions such as depression, anxiety, PTSD, OCD, and Schizophrenia. We provide support for individuals experiencing early psychosis or a first episode of psychosis.
2. Do you accept insurance or Medicare?
Ella Psychotherapy accepts Medicare. For private-pay clients, we do not bill insurance directly, but we can provide a superbill so you may seek reimbursement for our services through your insurance company.
3. Who is a good fit for therapy at Ella Psychotherapy?
We work with adolescents and adults across a broad range of mental health concerns. Many clients come to us seeking help with depression, anxiety, trauma, OCD, and chronic mental health conditions. We have a special passion for supporting young mothers who are balancing the demands of family and career. We are also deeply committed to helping individuals navigate challenges related to psychosis and schizophrenia.
4. What is CBT and DBT, and how can these treatments help me?
CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) helps clients identify and change unhelpful thought patterns that contribute to distress, while DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy) teaches mindfulness, emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness. Both are highly effective, evidence-based therapies that can support recovery and long-term wellness. We teach patients to lean into their personal strengths while gaining knowledge of new coping skills. We treat the whole person and include wellness strategies such as nutrition and lifestyle counseling.
5. How do I know if I need therapy for early psychosis?
If you or a loved one are noticing changes in thinking, perception, or functioning — such as unusual thoughts, withdrawing from friends, or difficulties at school or work — it may be helpful to seek an evaluation. At Ella Psychotherapy, we specialize in early psychosis treatment and provide compassionate, expert care tailored to each individual’s needs.
